Mention psychic power to most people and you get the message they don’t want to talk about it. Talk about psychic ability and you are likely to be dismissed with a laugh. Google “psychic powers,” “psychic ability,” or “psychic awareness” and you will see hundreds of thousands of results featuring everything from psychic readers to lessons on developing your psychic abilities.
There are almost 50,000 Google global searches per month for the term, “psychic ability.” Even though this is a low number, searches for learning about psychic ability are even lower. Global searches per month for the terms “how to develop psychic ability,” and “how to improve psychic ability” range from fewer than 1,000 to a little more than 1,000 searches a month. The results of these searches range in the hundreds of thousands, meaning that there are hundreds of thousands of resources out there for developing or improving psychic awareness, but few people are taking advantage of these resources. I interpret this as a reflection of the fear most of us still associate with anything psychic.
Let me tell you something – whether you know it or not and whether you like it or not, you are psychic. Everybody is psychic. Being psychic is no big deal. I think the big deal is how we look at psychic ability. Denying your psychic ability is like denying you have a brain.
The Fear Factor
The combination of power mongers since ancient times passing on their rules of entitlement and our dependence on physical science (talk about co-dependence) to tell us what’s right and what’s wrong, has compromised our ability to trust ourselves.
I’m not against physical science. There’s no question that humanity has gained immensely from physical science. And we stand to gain even more as quantum physics reveals more and more about the invisible realities of life.
I’m not worried about power mongers. They are losing their grip on humanity. Just look at world events of the past few years. As we gain the courage to develop our full potential, we will learn to listen to our psychic promptings and direct our lives with confidence.
What Do Psychic Powers Look Like?
Psychic powers have a boundless range of qualities. They can look anything like the little something that tells you where to find a parking place to the dream about a future event that comes true.
The general assumption is that unless you are a professional psychic prophesying dramatic events, you are not psychic. The truth is, the only difference between professional psychics and you is that they receive clear impressions and trust them. It’s their expertise. It’s their calling.
Being a psychic advisor or an intuitive counselor is like any other profession; like being a master carpenter, for instance. Certain people are called to the art and craft of fine carpentry. They love doing custom cabinetry, building furniture; it fulfills them and they are good at it. The rest of us aren’t interested in being a master carpenter, but that doesn’t mean we can’t hang a picture or build a deck on the back of our house.
Psychic ability is more than an art and a skill, however. It’s an inborn quality like your brain waves with the potential to help you live a more fulfilling life. You have the choice to develop your psychic ability. You have the choice to learn which hunches to follow and which not to follow. You have the choice to pay attention to your innate knowledge or to ignore it.
How Do Psychic Powers Serve You?
Your psychic awareness is immensely practical and always there. Remember the last time you were talking to someone who tried to convince you he was just fine when you had the sense that he was upset about something, or the time someone was handing you a line of bull when you knew instinctively she was lying? We were born psychic to help us navigate the tricky tides of life.
I wrote four articles about psychic awareness that will give you more information about your powerful life-enhancing abilities; your gifts of clairsentience, clairvoyance, prophecy, and clairaudience. You can learn a lot about yourself from them. If you’ve already read these pieces, you may want to read them again, maybe with a different point of view this time.
I hope this article helped you see psychic powers as a natural part of who you are. Your thoughts?
Live your purpose every day.
The other day a reader asked a question on my post Psychic Ability – The Gift of Feeling that many others have on their minds. She is so sensitive to other people’s feelings that sometimes she can’t function in her daily life, and she wanted to know how to overcome her debilitating situation.
I could empathize with her because I used to have the same issue. I shared a couple of powerful energy clearing techniques with her, which will solve the immediate problem, but there’s so much more to this question and not enough room to discuss it in a blog comment that I decided to share with you in a blog post how I learned to live in my own energy without sacrificing my sensitivity.
This post is a long one because I have included step-by-step processes that will help you relax, calm down, and clear your mind. So hang in there with me.
The Human Energy Field
This issue really starts with the cosmic soup of energy we live in. Thoughts are things, and we are constantly bombarded with thoughts and impressions from outside ourselves 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – that’s 24/7, no exaggeration. We are two-way radios, constantly sending and receiving signals. We are never unplugged.
Every living thing has an electromagnetic field which penetrates and surrounds it. In humans, it’s called the human energy field. The human energy field is the life force that holds the cells of our bodies together. Without it, we would be corpses. Here is a good description of the human energy field, also called the aura, from reiki-for-holistic-health.com.
The aura is the electromagnetic field that surrounds the human body (Human Energy Field-HEF) and every organism and object in the Universe.
The Human Energy Field [is] a collection of electro – magnetic energies of varying densities that permeate through and emit or exit from the physical body of a living person. These particles of energy are suspended around the healthy human body in an oval shaped field. This “auric egg” emits out from the body approximately 2-3 feet (1 metre on average) on all sides. It extends above the head and below the feet into the ground.
For more about the aura, to go http://www.reiki-for-holistic-health.com/auracolormeanings.html
The aura, also called the biofield, is actually our soul energy and connects us to everything in the universe. It’s the medium through which we sense our environment. Everyone senses everything in their environment through their aura whether they are aware of it or not; the only difference between people is the degree of sensitivity.
People who are highly empathic are particularly sensitive to their environment. These are the ones who find it challenging to be in a crowd or to be in a negative environment because they pick up energy indiscriminantly. The good news is that we have the ability to manage our biofield energy. In fact, it’s very important to manage our biofield energy so that we can function free of outside influences and enjoy life more.
Personal Energy Management
There are familiar ways we all regulate our biofield energy, such as doing things that lift our spirits like watching funny movies, going out with friends, playing sports, etc. These are indirect methods of biofield energy management, and they are more directed at our moods.
Everybody knows that keeping our thoughts more positive than negative is a powerful way to regulate our energy. Prayer is another powerful way.
For some, managing thoughts is easier said than done. And sometimes even the strongest minds need something more. That’s where direct methods of energy management come in.
Direct methods obviously work directly with your energy field, either physically or mentally, and do more than change your mood. They affect both your biofield and your body. Whether we use direct or indirect methods, I call it Personal Energy Management, or P.E.M.
There are other good methods of direct energy management, but I have found the ones I’m going to share with you to be quicker and easier than most, once you learn them. You can actually do these techniques on the run, if necessary. It’s like instant P.E.M.
Protecting Your Space
The first thing you need to do is establish a psychic boundary between you and the rest of the world. I don’t mean you have to shut down your feelings, but create a space within and around yourself that will allow you to sense the feelings and thoughts of others without getting caught up in them. I’m going to share four ways I do this. I call them all Spiritual Cleansing. The first one is a physical process.
Spiritual Cleansing I
- Standing up, rub your hands together until they feel warm or until they tingle or feel like magnets when you hold the palms about an inch apart. This means your biofield is charged up and ready to work with.
- Bring your hands to your forehead and pass them down over your temples and jaw line.
- Then shake them to keep your biofield energy going.
- Now, starting at your forehead again, pass your hands over the top of your head and around the back of your neck and bring them to the front again.
- Shake your hands again, and repeat the process until you feel balanced, starting with your forehead and jaw line once more. You can touch or not touch your skin. The process works either day.
- As you are doing the physical process, you can repeat this mantra (or not): “In the name of (your word for the Creator) within me, I cleanse my body, I cleanse my soul.”
- Do this entire process as many times as you need to until you sense that your energy is strong and clear.
You will know your energy is balanced and clear when you feel relaxed, when your skin feels tingly, or when you get chills or goose bumps.
You can do this process on the run (in a meeting, on the bus, at your desk, etc.) by rubbing the back of your neck or rubbing your forehead and mentally saying the mantra at the same time. Everyone does this naturally because subconsciously we know the back of the neck and the forehead are the points where our biofield energy enters the body and leaves the body. Running your hand through your hair is another way you automatically cleanse your biofield energy.
Spiritual Cleansing II and Variation
- Visualize yourself doing Spiritual Cleansing I and repeating the mantra.
- After you become familiar with the technique, just repeating the mantra either aloud or mentally will have the same effect as doing the physical process.
Spiritual Cleansing III
- Imagine a tiny ball of white light in your solar plexus.
- Allow the light to expand to fill your body.
- Now imagine the light surrounding your body in a big, glowing ball of white light.
- As you imagine the light filling and surrounding you, you can say, “I see the white light of the Loving Presence that fills me and surrounds me.”
- You can use any color you are led to use.
Spiritual Cleansing IV
- Say the following three times, aloud or mentally:
- “I invoke the light of the Christ within (or your word for the Creator), I’m a clear and perfect channel, light is my guide.”
Each of these processes creates an invisible shield around you which allows you to sense your environment without becoming influenced by it. Each of them will produce physical effects, such as tingling, chills, or goose bumps.
If you have a dowsing rod(s), you can measure a friend’s biofield while s/he is doing these processes and have him/her measure yours. Have your friend focus on a negative thought, then measure his field by standing about 10 feet away and walking toward him with the rod(s). You will not get a measurement until you are about 12 inches or so from your friend. As your friend does the cleansing processes, you will see his aura projecting up to 10 feet from his body when you use the dowsing rod(s). It’s fun to see how powerful these processes are and to realize how much power we have to change our energy.
Cleansing is a spiritual discipline, and you will get out of it what you put into it. I recommend cleansing before you go to bed and when you get up, whenever you feel stressed or tired during the day, angry or upset, before a meeting, before and after work, and between tasks during the day. You’ll find countless ways you can use it in your everyday life. You can teach your children how to do it, too. Little kids love to do it.
You may feel the need to cleanse multiple times a day at first, but when you become skilled with these techniques, your energy will stay at higher levels longer and you won’t have to cleanse as often. Always look for the physical responses of chills, tingling, or goose bumps that confirm your energy is clear. It’s important for everyone to take charge of their energy. You don’t have to live your life at the mercy of your environment.
I hope you will try these techniques, and I’d love to receive your comments. Also, please share with us other ways you manage your personal energy. Knowledge is power!
Live your purpose every day.
Since Sunday is Mother’s Day, I’d like to pause Friday Funnies this week in order to pay tribute to mothers everywhere.
The mother-child relationship is a deep and mysterious one. It begins before either is ever born. Motherhood may or may not be part of a soul’s purpose. If it is, the soul agrees to parenthood before entering life on earth. We mothers enter into a spiritual contract with each of the souls we will eventually encounter as our children.
Our mothers are our first contact with physical life. Our development in the womb creates a powerful, two-way bond of love. If you have a loving relationship with your mother, it’s easy to feel this bond. If your relationship is not so close, it’s not so easy.
When I look back at my tumultuous relationship with my mother, I remember knowing, deep in my spirit, that she loved me in spite of what we were experiencing on the physical plane. I think my knowing was the remembrance of that spiritual bond between mother and child that underlies whatever happens in the 3-D relationship.
We all want our mothers to be what we perceive as perfect. Very few of us have our ideal mother. On the other hand, maybe we do. Maybe, if we are willing to learn, they embody the lessons that can make us the best Self possible.
Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers everywhere. Thank you for your presence in our lives.

Outside influence is a common occurrence. It is not possession, but influence by confused entities who are attached to life in the physical realm. Everyone on earth has been influenced by confused, disembodied spirits. Some people go through their entire lives under the influence of confused souls and don’t even realize it.
Outside influence is so subtle we don’t recognize it. Spirit possession, in which a person is taken over by a negative entity, is rare. I know it’s difficult, and even frightening, to imagine oneself being influenced by confused entities, but if you think of discarnate souls as similar to yourself except for the physical body, it might be easier to see the possibilities. We are influenced every day by our friends, co-workers, and families. Influence by discarnate souls is different only in the sense that it comes from the spiritual realm.
How Does Outside Influence Happen?
Outside influence can be the result of attachments from past lives. In other cases, it occurs in traumatic circumstances, such as severe and prolonged illness, hospital stays, including operations, and traumatic accidents. Trauma such as rape can be influenced by discarnate spirits. Addiction is another situation that discarnate spirits attach to.
Discarnate entities can cause serious disruption of relationships, finances, and health. Outside influence can cause illness and accidents, as well. In the news recently was a story about twelve teen-age girls in New York State who are suffering from Touret’s-like symptoms. So far, the cause of these symptoms has not been determined. Environmental pollution and other factors are being explored. Perhaps as we become more open and less frightened of paranormal phenomena, exploration of spirit possession will be considered as a matter of course in situations like this. Freeing discarnate entities heals on many levels.
Mental hospitals are full of discarnate spirits. Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len is a Hawaiian psychologist and master teacher of ho’oponopono, an ancient Hawaiian healing practice. During his time as a staff psychologist at Hawaii State Hospital in a high-security unit housing criminally insane patients, he used ho’oponopono to completely change the energy in the unit. Patients were transformed from violent, shackled men feared by staff members to individuals able to take responsibility for their actions and engage in useful activities. The quality of life for patients and staff shifted from custodial to caring. Family visits took place. Staff turnover decreased markedly.
This happened without Dr. Len’s presence in the ward and without therapy sessions with the men. Ho’oponopono healed the discarnate entities as well as the patients in the ward. You can read about Dr. Len’s fascinating experience in the book “Zero Limits” by Joe Vitale and Dr. Len. You may also want to visit Dr. Len’s website.
What Are the Symptoms of Outside Influence?
Much of our mind chatter is due to influence from discarnate entities. We even have language that expresses the phenomenon of outside influence: “I’m just not myself today,” “I’m not quite here,” “That’s not like me,” “I don’t know what got into me.”
Symptoms of discarnate entity influence can be subtle or obvious. Any negative emotional state that one can’t seem to shake, such as anger, depression, anxiety, feeling unloved, isolated, or inferior can be due to outside influence. Thoughts that are not characteristic, such as thoughts of suicide or doing violence are often from outside influence. Cravings and obsessions can also be due to outside influence.
What Can We Do About Outside Influence?
Thoughts are things. It’s important to be aware of your thoughts and what they are doing to your quality of life. If one spends a great deal of time and energy in a negative state of mind, sooner or later s/he will attract a discarnate entity who is in the same state of mind. Then it becomes necessary to get help to free the unwanted entity. Our thoughts and beliefs are so powerful that they affect everything in our lives. Taking responsibility to change negative habits is the most important thing we can do to reduce the incidence of outside influence.
I encourage everyone to learn more about entity attachment in order to dispel the fear associated with it. If you Google “spirit releasement therapy” you will find good web sites with reliable information shared by professionals in the field. Any source that sensationalizes entity attachment is using it as a means to attract attention and is not a good source of reliable information.
Part of my mission is to show that the physical and spiritual realms are two sides of the same coin, and we live in both realms in every minute of every day. Consciously using all the potential we were born with can be an amazingly exciting adventure. I hope this series has been interesting and enlightening to you.
Live your purpose every day.

What is exorcism?
A definition of exorcism by the Free Online Dictionary says exorcism is a ceremony to expel an evil spirit from a person or place. Most Christians know exorcism through the Catholic church as a violent and frightening process. Other Christian religions such as Pentecostals and other charismatic groups also practice exorcism. It has been practiced for centuries worldwide in Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and among tribal cultures.
In the Christian religion, the key concept in exorcism is that an entity who has taken over a person’s body is an evil demon and must be removed forcibly. This creates a battle between the “demon” and the exorcist(s), each side determined to show the other who is right. When the “demon” is finally expelled from the body, it is made to swear an oath or commanded to depart rather than being directed to a specific destination. It seems the person, now freed from influence, is not given any counsel about how to remain free of outside influence in the future.
I have never worked with “demons,” but in counseling a client once, I saw a group of violently angry entities waiting for her, and I knew that if she continued on the path she had been pursuing, she would eventually meet up with them. She had been hurt so deeply by an important person in her life that she was unwilling to forgive, and she was on her way to being taken in by this group.
A more recent method of dealing with disembodied spirits involves seeing them as confused souls who need healing rather than as evil entities. While soul releasement was part of my metaphysical training, other psychotherapists, such as Dr. Edith Fiore, developed their own methods of freeing confused souls as a result of surprise encounters during psychotherapy sessions. Dr. Carl A. Wickland was a pioneer in the field of abnormal psychology who practiced soul releasement with much success. Dr. William J. Baldwin called the process he developed spirit releasement therapy. The process goes by different names, depending on who developed it, but it is conducted basically the same way with minor variations.
How It’s Done
I conducted many soul releasement sessions (which I call entity release) in my practice of psychotherapy, so I’ll share with you the way I did it. My first priority was to determine that my client’s disturbing feelings were due to a possession and not something else. Next, I began working with the attached entity, either through a psychic medium or through my spiritual guides. My client was a witness, and not a participant in this part of the process, although I would check with my client from time to time to see how s/he was relating to what was occurring as I worked with the entity.
To begin, I asked the entity to identify itself, tell me why it was with my client, and what it wanted. After clarifying this information, I let the entity know that it had passed on and no longer had a physical body. I let the entity know how it had been negatively influencing the client, and that it was time to go on to the next step in its evolution.
Sometimes the confused souls were unwilling to move on. They may have felt frightened or angry or that the client needed them for protection, so I would address their concerns. After resolving their concerns, I would introduce them to their own spiritual helpers, who were prepared to take them to the light, where they would be lovingly welcomed.
Once it was established that the entity was willing to go, I asked the entity and my client if there was anything they wanted to say before leaving. Usually there was forgiveness given and received, or love and reassurance expressed, then goodbyes, and the entity would go into the light with its spiritual helpers.
The sessions were emotional for the client and the entity; sometimes the attachments were due to misguided love. Whatever the attachment was about, healing always occurred. This was the reward for me. I had the fulfillment of witnessing healing of my client, as well as of the formerly attached entity. The final step was to regroup with my client, coaching him/her on how to stay clear of further attachment and how to alter the habits that had attracted the entity.
The most important thing about conducting this non-confrontational type of soul release is that spirit conducts the session. The facilitator never gets emotionally involved with the entity and is guided by spirit through every step of the process. If an entity becomes difficult, it is important to allow the spirit guides to handle the situation. I remember an entity visiting me several days before a scheduled session.
I noticed him in my house, floating near the ceiling, and at first he seemed threatening. I eventually realized he was afraid of losing his attachment to the physical, as he knew about the impending session, and was checking me out. I did not address the entity directly, but told my spiritual helpers I was willing to allow him to observe me, and I wanted them to see that he did not try to influence me in any way. He left my house after a couple of days, and the session for his release went smoothly and easily.
There is more information about soul releasement at the following web sites: http://www.soulrescuesite.com/spirit-releasement-therapy.htm, http://www.spiritreleasement.org/NSITE/index.html, and http://depossessiontherapy.com.
Soul releasement is perfectly safe when it is conducted in an organized, step-by-step manner. Providing a safe structure gives the confused soul boundaries and the security it needs to engage in the process.
The next, and last, article in this series will be a kind of summary and will talk about the symptoms of influence by a disembodied spirit.
Live your purpose every day.
It is well understood that everything is energy – even thoughts are energy. Our thoughts, beliefs, and memories create an energy pattern around us, making us magnets for similar thoughts. Every thought we think travels and reverberates into infinity. We live in a psychic soup full of thoughts and influences from everywhere. Many of the thoughts that we take for granted are ours are really impressions we pick up from others.
Paranormal studies in thought projection have shown that a subject can pick up a thought no matter how far away he/she is from the person projecting that thought. It happens in everyday life. When you think of a friend and that friend phones you shortly after your thought, you have picked up your friend’s thought of calling you. It’s natural. Every thought we think influences something or someone. Fortunately, we have the power to choose our influences. Unfortunately, most of us are not aware of this power we have.
We pick up impressions from other dimensions, as well. Ancient wisdom has taught the existence of many dimensions of consciousness. Science is investigating the existence of other dimensions. Psychic mediums routinely communicate with souls who have passed on into another dimension.
It’s not news that thoughts attract like thoughts. If, for instance, you wake up in the morning and stub your toe while getting out of bed, then spill the coffee you just made, and bump your head on the shower door, you are probably still upset about stubbing your toe. Your original upset has been carried forward into your day. If you change your thoughts, your day will change.
If you keep the upset over stubbing your toe all through your day, your day will likely get bumpier and bumpier while your mood becomes darker and darker. If this goes on long enough, you will likely attract a confused soul who has the same mindset as you, just as you seem to be running into grouchy people all day. It’s physics. Like attracts like. Even though the phrase has almost become a cliche, “change your thoughts and change your life” is the way life works.
You can think of souls who pass on in confusion as people just like yourself who are trying to hold onto old patterns because they don’t know any better. If they were compulsive eaters in physical life, they are still looking for ways to keep on eating. They seek attachment to a compulsive eater so they can fulfill that need. The same is true of souls who passed on with a compulsive need for drugs, drinking, smoking, and sex. They will find someone with their same need and try to attach themselves. It’s what they do. It’s the only life they know.
Instead of fearing them, we can be healing these souls and releasing them. Soul releasement is a powerful healing practice; the spiritual equivalent of psychotherapy. People are released from the influence of confused souls, and confused souls are free to move on to the next step in their spiritual evolvement. Although soul releasement therapy is not yet well known in the United States, it is a growing profession.
To sum up, confused souls do not like positive energy and cannot exist in it. When you change your energy from negitive to positive, they have to move on and find someone else to attach themselves to. I wrote an article about a year ago called The Unquiet Dead which goes into detail about the influence of confused souls and how to avoid it.
You are in charge of your thoughts and feelings. No disembodied soul can influence you unless you give it permission. If you have uncontrollable emotions, if you have thoughts that are not characteristic of you, or if you have addictions, read the article and practice the energy techniques described in it. Taking charge of your energy is the first step in resolving your own confusion and opening the way to spiritual freedom.
Next time, I’ll talk about soul releasement and exorcism.
Live your purpose every day.
First, it’s good to be back. Thanks to the generosity of good friends, I have a new (to me) laptop to add to my collection. Now I can send my other two computers to the doctor without missing a beat. Life is good.
This will be the first in a series of articles on ghosts and my experience in dealing with them. Ghosts are a real phenomenon, and I hope to show them as a natural part of life and as something we don’t need to fear. I see the fear of ghosts as a result of ignorance and misunderstanding. Ghosts are sensationalized in the media and in literature out of fear and also because ghost stories make good money. Even reality TV exploits the fear of ghosts.
What is a ghost?
Very simply, a ghost is a soul without a body; someone who has passed on from this world. I don’t like to say “died” because they are very much alive in spirit. The only difference between you and a ghost is your body. When most people pass on, they go on to other opportunities in other dimensions. To illustrate this, let me tell you a story.
After my father passed on, I dreamed about him from time to time. In some dreams, he gave me advice. Other dreams showed him working with lots of people. In one, he was carrying boards, like 2X4s, from one place to another. He was part of a large group of people who were building a house, or houses. These dreams meant that he was getting ready for his next opportunity in spiritual growth and in service to others.
The most profound dream I had, about five years after he passed on, seemed to be the last in a series. He and I were flying over rooftops. It was dark and I was in the lead. Finally we came to our destination, a house in the suburbs of a city. He stayed there, and I flew on and the dream ended. When I woke up, I knew there was something important about that dream. In meditation I received the message that I had led him to his next earthly lifetime. He was to be the youngest child of four (a boy) in a family located somewhere in France. This, after a lifetime of responsibility in which, from childhood, he took care of his sisters and his father after his mother died and became an exemplary husband and father after an adventurous life at sea.
My understanding is that people don’t usually take up another lifetime on earth so soon after leaving the last one. But I remember lifetimes with my father in which we were members of religious communities. It could be that he had had many lifetimes in spiritual environments and was ready to come back sooner than most.
Some people pass on in a state of confusion. They are not aware that they no longer have a body. They are trying to experience life as if they are still in the physical, and they become stuck in the patterns that were most influential in their physical lives. Any disabilities or diseases they had while in the physical can attract them to the places or people who were instrumental in their treatment. People can get stuck in the places where they died; for example, hospitals, houses, battle fields, and other places. If someone passes on in a high state of stress, it increases the possibility of becoming attached to the place where the incident occurred.
These are the souls we think of as ghosts. We have learned, through fear, to give them power they do not have. In reality, we have the power to influence them. For example, in my beginning days as a student of metaphysics, I was working for a man who told me he had a ghost in his house. He wasn’t afraid of the ghost, but it was upsetting his life by moving things around in the house, and he didn’t know what to do. I suggested that he tell the ghost (I don’t remember if he had a name for it or not) it could stay in the house as long as it behaved with respect for his property. If the ghost wasn’t willing to leave things alone, it had to leave. My boss told me the next day that he told the ghost what I had suggested. He didn’t have any more trouble from the ghost after that.
Next time, I’ll talk more about who influences whom, and how.
Live your purpose every day.
Many years ago, at the start of my metaphysical training, I learned how to manifest intentions. I’d never before purposefully used my thoughts to get what I wanted, and I was excited to learn. My first experience involved moving.
I wanted to move to a particular apartment building in my neighborhood, which was not easy to get into. It seemed everyone else wanted to be there, too. It was a small building with only four units, and the apartments were very attractive. You had to watch the rental ads like a hawk to see when one was available.
I had looked at an apartment in this building before, and had just missed getting it, as it had been rented earlier that day. I was really disappointed, but I decided to apply what I was learning about manifestation to make sure I got the next one that became available.
I enlisted the help of my son, who was 11 at the time, and we visualized ourselves living there. We talked about the mirrored living room wall that I loved and went shopping for kitchen accessories and furniture. I watched the neighborhood paper closely for the ad that would surely show up for us. After a few weeks, I stopped looking. I can’t remember if I was distracted by other concerns, or whether I became discouraged, or I just forgot.
One day at work some time later, I happened to pick up the paper, and there was the ad I was waiting for. I immediately called the number and told the landlady not to rent that apartment to anyone else. I would be there after work to sign the contract. When I arrived, she told me the ad had gone into the paper that day, and I was the first to call.
I was overjoyed. The process was so easy, it seemed like magic. The hard part was waiting. I think eventually forgetting to look in the paper was a way of letting go and allowing the universe to bring me what I wanted at the right time. I’ve learned if I want to manifest an intention, I need to trust that the universe is working with me on it.
Live your purpose every day.
I really miss not posting yesterday. I got highjacked by the vicissitudes of life a few days ago, and have finally broken free. Happy Valentine’s Day. May you experience the love this day symbolizes every day of your life.
I’ve been thinking about vegetarianism the last few weeks, and all the issues it can bring forward. Some people seem to think it’s not good to eat meat because animals have souls and should not be killed. But what about plants? Do they not have souls?
What I read in “The Secret Life of Plants,” by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird, made me ask some questions along these lines. In the book, I learned that plants are sensitive to their environment, including the people in it. Some interesting experiments were conducted in which plants were connected to a polygraph and were observed leaning toward people who treated them kindly and away from people who treated them unkindly. It was noted that they actually made little plant screeches when someone approached them with scissors. The experiments are considered to be pseudoscience by some. But what if they aren’t?
After much rumination on the subject, I have come to the following conclusion. I don’t know whether being highly sensitive to their environment means plants have souls or not. To me, that’s not the point. The point is that we live in a predator-prey environment. Every creature eats another creature. Humans are the top predators in the food chain. Therefore, humans can eat whatever they want. We are not the biggest, but we are the baddest, if you subscribe to the paradigm of raw power.
This situation is not pretty or sweet or kind. It just is, like Spirit just is. I think Native Americans had the right idea. Treat everything on earth with respect, including the animals and plants we kill and eat.
