Why Isn’t The Law of Attraction Working?

By Andrea Mathews

This article is from OM Times magazine. I just had to share it with you because so many people are asking this question. Do you know who you really are? Share your thoughts with us!

law-of-attraction_OM-TimesWhen the law of attraction first came into public awareness approximately 20 years ago, with the writings of Ester and Jerry Hicks and Rhonda Byrne, the thinking was that if you thought positive thoughts, you would attract positive things into your life.  This notion was taken very seriously, to the point that many started consciously watching each thought and each word, lest it produce negative consequences. But after a while people began to realize that this wasn’t really working.

So, it was thought it best to include emotions into the paradigm.  Now we were not only to think positive but we were to feel positive as well.  Well, it turns out that that didn’t work so well either, so then we started exploring the deeper regions of the psyche for that saboteur.  The shadow was now the culprit who was keeping us from fulfilling our dreams. But since we didn’t know much about how to work with the unconscious, we sought out healers who were to cut the chords to that old dark material and we would then be free, finally to work our vision boards and affirmations so that our dreams would finally come true. But alas, because in order to work with unconscious material we have to make it conscious, that didn’t work either.

So, what is the problem?  It is possible that the whole thing is just unfounded? Well, before we throw the baby out with the wash, we might want to consider the possibility that we need to revise the law. And if we are going to do that, we might want to find out if the soul is really in agreement with the way we are taught to work with this law. For if the soul is actually in charge and the soul doesn’t want to work the way the law of attraction has us working, then the law is not going to work.

Well, it turns out that the soul is in charge and we are not meant to be striving moment-by-moment to bring home the bacon of that financial windfall or that big house in the mountains.  That’s just not what it’s all about.  It’s about the soul.

The soul’s efforts are always fruitful. That old Bible scripture: My word shall not return to me empty” found in Isaiah 55:11, tells the real story. The soul will accomplish all that it incarnates to accomplish in a given lifetime. And what the soul wants is for us to come to know ourselves as the divine beings we are.  It wants us to get in touch with the deepest essence of who we are as Divine Self. And that’s its only intention.  Why?  Because once upon a time, in a faraway land, long ago, we all took on the duality trance state as our way of seeing ourselves. Because form was created by formlessness, and because every creative endeavor involves the perpetuation of infinite possibility, form asked itself–am I now separate from formlessness, since we appear to be so different?

We’ve been trying to answer that question ever since. So, our entire journey–incarnation after incarnation–is all about finally coming back to the place where we recognize form and formlessness as One.  When we do finally unite form and formlessness in our conscious experience, the entire Universe will change and shift into the next stage of evolutionary soul desire.

So, we are not attracting based on our conscious efforts to think positive thoughts and feel positive feelings–an exercise in repression.  And we are not attracting based on our efforts to march into the unconscious wearing our army boots and kicking over the gravestones of unresolved issues so that we can kick out any “negative” thoughts and feelings that might arise from that issue–a further exercise in more repression.

Rather we are attracted to and by all of those people, places, events, circumstances and relationships which will bring us to closer and closer awareness of who we are as divine beings–form united with formlessness as conscious experience. Everything that occurs in our lives is brought about for that one reason–so that we can come to know who we really are, below all the masks and costumes of survival.

We can relax then into the flow of life and trust that we are always getting there.  We can stop trying to push the river by demanding that the Universe comply with our silly little bargains that IF we think only positive thoughts, and feel only positive feelings, THEN we will get everything we want in life.  We are getting everything our souls want constantly and we live in an ever evolving loop of soul desire and fulfillment. So, the question isn’t how can I fulfill my dreams for the external to make me happy. The question is, “Who am I really?”  And the answer isn’t to strive after a totally positive mind and totally positive feelings so that the Universe will come into compliant with our dualistic version of life. The answer is to be still, step into the stillness, step into the silence of beingness to find out who we are.

Emotional Causes of Disease

English: Robert Plutchik's Wheel of Emotions

As you know, I’ve said that all disease originates in the emotions and spirit. Today I found an article on the emotional causes of fibromyalgia that I want to share with you.

Even though I don’t have the disease, I’ve been experiencing muscle pain. When I read a certain passage in this article, I began to cry. For me, that’s a clue that there’s something coming forward I need to pay attention to. My emotional reaction pinpoints the issue for me.

I’m going through a major shift in consciousness right now that is bringing up issues which, I discovered through this article, are expressing through muscle pain. My body is speaking to me loud and clear.

After reading the article, I practiced some healing techniques that helped reduce the pain significantly. I will continue practicing self-healing until the pain is gone and I am free of the issues.

Maybe you are experiencing disease or physical discomfort right now. I invite you to  explore this concept of disease and see if you can relate to it as I do. I Googled “spiritual cause of fibromyalgia” and found several articles. Here is the link to the article that spoke most strongly to me http://www.askclaudia.com/emotional-causes-fibromyalgia.htm. Besides the information about fibromyalgia, there is a lot of information about emotions and disease and some emotional healing techniques you may want to try.

You may want to look up a different symptom.

If you experience an emotional reaction in your exploration such as sadness, tears, resistance, defensiveness, anger, or fear chances are you’ve found your source for healing. Your body is speaking to you loud and clear.

Here’s the good news; even though it’s no fun to face your emotional issues, there are so many resources for healing today that you won’t be in pain much longer if you use those resources.

More good news; disease or discomfort is not your fault. We all have emotional history that goes back in time as we know it for unknown numbers of years, centuries, or eons. That history is captured in the cells of our bodies in the form of cellular memory.

We handle challenging, painful experiences in the best way we know how. You’ve already done the best you know how in those experiences. Now you have the power to resolve painful cellular memories. You can choose to move forward and give yourself the gift of healing.

I hope you do.

Inspiring Moment

Today I am into inspiration and expansion. I ran across a mind-boggling video a couple of weeks ago and classify it as one of the most inspiring moments in my life.

If you are not inspired to revisit and take the first step (maybe only a baby step) to manifest one of your deepest and most expansive dreams after viewing this (most likely, again, because practically everyone on earth has already seen it) you are probably not really here – you just think you are.

Enjoy and be uplifted!

The Law of Attraction in Action

Magnesy

By now almost everybody knows that the Law of Attraction brings you what you think about. There are hundreds of articles, blogs, books, and websites about activating the Law of Attraction in your life. Many of us forget that using the Law of Attraction is effortless. You don’t have to be “spiritual” to experience it. It is always in action, and it works for everyone. If we pay attention to what’s happening, we see it everywhere.

From time to time, I forget to notice the Law of Attraction in my life. If I’m in haste mode and perceive it’s not working for me, I create static about it. So I’ve decided to start a project, beginning today, to notice the Law of Attraction in my life. My intention, each day for the next three months, is to write down some way the Law of Attraction has demonstrated itself in my life. By then, noticing the Law of Attraction in my life should be as automatic as breathing.

Why bother? This project will show me the quality of my thinking, since some examples will be negative and some positive. I expect to learn to create more of what I want in my life and less of what I don’t want.

Sometimes the Law of Attraction is not obvious to us, or perhaps our experience of it is so insignificant (it’s manifesting with small things) that it’s hard to see. I had an experience several months ago that illustrates this.

One day I noticed that one of the tires on my car was low on air, so I went to my neighborhood gas station to fill it up. Much to my surprise, I noticed that now they are charging $1.00 for 3 minutes of air. I got angry because … first of all, air is free – we breathe it all the time without paying for it; second, I don’t need 3 minutes of air – only a few seconds; third, the bastards got us again. You will agree with me, an unenlightened attitude.

Incensed, I went to several other gas stations and found the same was true at each one. So I decided not to fill up my tire that day. Naturally, I knew that an issue was up. It nagged at me for several days. To make a long story short, I was eventually willing to resolve my issue (I can be stubborn) and let it go. I still wanted free air, but there was no emotional charge on it any more.

Soon after that, I stopped at the air pump of a grocery store where I had been shopping, now willing to pay. I got in line behind a man who was just finishing up with his tire. As he pulled away and I pulled up at the pump, the man stopped his car and got out. I was surprised, because it was a cold, rainy day. As he approached me, he said, “There’s plenty of air left. You can have the rest of mine.” Not only that, he filled the tire for me. Wow. Needless to say, I thanked him profusely. In addition to getting the air for free, I loved the chivalry of this classy man.

It was a small thing, but it made my day.

What about you? Want to join me in my project? It would be fun to share experiences. How is the Law of Attraction working in your life? Just tell us in the comments section. If enough people respond, I’ll create a blog post just for our comments.

Live your purpose every day.

How to Trust Yourself, No Matter What

Frowny

Frowny (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

A couple of weeks ago I had an expensive lesson in trusting myself. It is still playing like a movie in my mind. I see a big billboard with the words, TRUST YOURSELF!, in huge letters which consume its entire surface. I am through kicking myself about it and am now left with a dumb-struck sense of wonder at how I let it happen. I came to the conclusion that my spirit guides decided I needed a lesson I would never forget. Here’s what happened.

I was sitting in my car at a red light, peacefully waiting for it to change to green when the car behind me slammed into my car (whose name is Jane, by the way). Although the impact sent me ricocheting forward, then back, it was not enough to hurt me. Jane, however, suffered cosmetic and structural damage. She is at her spa right now, receiving treatment.

A few seconds after impact, before I had a chance to think about it, the driver of the other car was at my window saying that we should pull into a nearby side street so as not to block traffic. I knew this was a mistake, but as he pulled his car up beside mine, I followed him.

To make a long story short, I allowed him to take over the situation and ended up with nothing more than a name, address, and phone number taken from his strange-looking insurance card. After not hearing from his insurance company for several days, I contacted them and found out his insurance had expired several months ago.

I did some research and found that the phone number he gave me belongs to someone else, the address is not his, and his name is nowhere to be found. Clearly, the man is a phony. Now my insurance company is paying for the damage, I am paying the deductible, and I am grateful for the coverage.

My sense is that my insurance company will never find this man, but I could be wrong. What I am sure of is that, all through my exchange with this person, I knew he was lying and I didn’t challenge him.

I could blame Mercury, which was retrograde at the time; confused souls influencing me; lack of self-confidence; or all kinds of other things; but in spite of anything else, I knew. My inner knowing was right there, hollering at me, through the whole experience.

You have inner knowing, too. When it is hollering at you over the chaos of life, listen and act on it. Otherwise, you could have an expensive lesson, yourself.

Live your purpose every day.

Ack!

Internet

Internet (Photo credit: hdzimmermann)

My computer is half-down. That is, it freezes up after accessing the Internet, but word processing works fine. Until I get it fixed, I will be accessing the Internet through alternative means (another computer). The weird thing is, this is happening on both my desktop and laptop. And my modem is working perfectly.

Oh well, nothing to do but learn from this. Hm. I was considering the life lesson(s) that may be in this as I watched the mouse arrow skipping, rather than gliding, across the screen, a signal that the computer was about to freeze up. The message that came to me was, “Start, stop – start, stop.” Could I be doing this in my life some way? Yes, I could, I thought. Starting new things is always exciting to me, but I tend to lose interest as soon as the newness wears off, or when I begin to doubt myself (all tendencies reflected in my Chaldean Soul Chart).

Another message came through as I contemplated the mouse’s arrow – “Focus.” I’ve been having challenges focusing lately. The message made perfect sense.

I now have two lessons to learn from this unpleasant surprise. More lessons may come forward as I explore these. I’ll keep you posted.

In former times, I would have been wringing my hands and loudly lamenting my bad luck. But I have gradually transformed issues connected to this type of situation and experienced the advantages of making other choices. Not easy, but the effort has paid off in undreamed-of ways.

Meanwhile, I may not respond immediately to your comments, but I will do my best to keep up with you. I hope all goes well with you and your computer, and thanks for your support.

You Were Born That Way

This was the original title of my book until someone suggested it might be interpreted in a way I hadn’t intended. For instance, some people might

English: Newborn infant, 4 hours after birth D...

Image via Wikipedia

think the book was about the things they didn’t like about themselves or that it could be an excuse for some people to act like jerks. So I changed the title to “You Were Born to Succeed.”

And you were also born that way – that is, with certain characteristics and qualities that make you unique. If you were a computer, it would mean that all your programs had been automatically installed before birth. And they would all be up and running from the minute you came out of the womb. Some of your programs wouldn’t be evident until you reached a certain age, but they would be there nonetheless.

Your programs, installed some time after conception and before birth, would consist of all your spiritual knowledge and wisdom in addition to all the information needed to build your physical body. Unlike a computer, your programs would grow and develop with experience. As a newborn, you knew who you were, where you came from, and where you were going. Following the rules of the game on earth, you forgot all this a short time after you took your first breath.

But the information is still there, and easily accessible if you choose to uncover it, in the letters and numbers of your birth name and birth date. If you are one of the few who have learned to live in your heart and trust your instincts, you don’t need this information. For you, it’s backup in case you lose your way, since you are automatically following your life purpose. If you are not one of these few, you may want to look yourself up in your own personal book of life by learning to use Chaldean numerology through my book (click on the Select Authors image) or by contacting me, and I will open the book for you.

My wish is that everyone on earth lives a successful life by following their purpose. My intention is to help as many people as I can to accomplish it.

Live your purpose every day.
