How to Have Foolproof Communication with Your Spiritual Helpers

Last time, I told the story of how my guardian angels helped me quit smoking. They have always guided me toward the light. They have offered insightful and inspiring guidance on the most mundane matters and on the most difficult times I have faced. They celebrate the good times with me, too.

Today I want to share some ways I have learned to receive clear communication and how I have learned to know the difference between my spirit guides and my own thoughts.

If what I share today makes sense to you, use it. If not, put it on a shelf for later consideration or let it go. We all make the right choices at the right time.

I like to call them my guardian angels. Choose the name you prefer to call yours (spiritual helpers, board of directors, team, etc.) They don’t care what we call them, they just want to communicate.

Who Are They?

Your spiritual helpers are experts you have contracted with to accompany you through life. They have lived through every experience in your life and learned the lessons you have chosen this lifetime. Some say that you have known these souls in past lifetimes. Their purpose is to guide us, not to tell us what to do.

Getting in Tune

In order to communicate with them, you need to raise your vibration to their level. The first step is to clear your energy. I’m sure many of you have effective ways to do that. I’ll share again a  technique I use that you may want to adopt. It is simple, quick, and effective.

Stand or sit comfortably (you will be able to do this on the fly, as well, once you get the hang of it). Mentally say, “I invoke the light of the Christ within (or your name for the Creator), I’m a clear and perfect channel, light is my guide.” At the same time, visualize a point of white light in your solar plexus. Allow it to get bigger and bigger until it fills your body and envelops you in a bubble of white light.

Gently repeat the mantra and visualize the light until you feel goose bumps, chills, or a tingling sensation on your skin. This is the indication that you are on your guides’ wavelength and are close enough to feel the higher charge of electro-magnetic energy that emanates from them. When your energy meets their energy it causes these physical sensations.

It is helpful for some to add a physical action to this process. Rub your hands together to charge up your energy. As you repeat the mantra, pass your hands over the top of your head and down the back of your neck. Give them a little shake and pass them over your forehead and down the sides of your face. Shake your hands again and repeat the process as often as necessary.

How to Ask Questions

Let’s talk about yes-no questions first. It’s important to phrase the question in such a way that your helpers can offer an opinion or suggestion. Don’t ask if you should do something; they will not respond because they won’t tell you what to do. Ask their opinion, such as, “In your opinion, is it in the best interest of all concerned for me to … ?” Or, “Is it in my best interest to … ?” Or, “I have the impression that … . In your opinion, is this an accurate impression?”

For more detail, you can ask for an answer through one of your spiritual gifts; a picture, a feeling, or words. (See my posts on the four spiritual gifts). Simply stay relaxed and wait for the impression. This will take practice. Be patient with yourself. Stay tuned in to your body and make sure you can feel their presence in one of the ways mentioned above. If you lose contact, simply perform the clearing process again.

Establishing Your Signals, Asking the Question, and Verifying the Answer

You will need to be standing for this. Place your feet about 12” apart and perform the clearing process until you can feel the presence of your spiritual helpers. Your body will become a pendulum of sorts. You will be receiving “Yes” and “No” answers through the swaying of your body. You can close your eyes through this process or keep them open, whatever is most comfortable for you.

Establish your signals. Gently sway front to back an inch or two and say, “I want this to mean ‘yes’.” Now move your body left to right a couple of inches and say, “I want this to mean ‘no’.” Now center your body, make sure you are clear, and say, “Give me a ‘yes’.” Allow your body to be moved. Ask for a ‘no’ in the same way. Practice until you feel comfortable with the process. You only need to do this once.

Ask your question according to the directions above. To verify the answer to a question, relax and ask if the answer came from them. “Did that answer come from you?” You will feel your body sway in one direction or another. Then ask, “Did that answer come from me?” You will feel your body sway in the opposite direction if you are still clear.

Always verify your answers.

Respect the Process

This is an advanced communication technique. You are responsible to get and stay clear all through the process. If you fail to keep your energy tuned in to your guidance, you will get answers from entities who are confused. Then you will become confused. Spiritual practice requires discipline. It’s up to you to maintain the clarity that is necessary for success with this technique.

Meanwhile, congratulations! Your spiritual helpers are happy to be in closer contact with you.

Live your purpose every day.

Guardian Angels: Guidance from the Unseen

angelHow My Angels Helped Me Quit Smoking

I had been in an emotional pressure cooker for two years. It began with my mother hovering between life and death after suffering a stroke and a heart attack just a few minutes apart. My husband, our 3-year-old son, and I traveled halfway across the country to be with her and help my family. While my father, an officer on a Military Sea Transport ship, was on his way home from half-way around the world, I did my best to maintain their household, which included my rebellious teen-age sister.

After many days of uncertainty, my mother began to rally, and we knew she would live. During this time, the last of the fragile threads that had been holding my marriage together snapped and my husband left my son and me, going back alone to our home and his job. When my mother was released from the hospital, my father left me in charge of her and my sister in exchange for a place to stay, and he returned to his ship.

A year later, I was grateful to have helped my mother experience a miraculous, complete recovery, and I had somehow caused my sister to remain in school and graduate, allaying my father’s fear that she would quit. Oh yes, and during this time I obtained a divorce, with some difficulty.

Now my son and I were living in an apartment near my mother’s house. I was working at night in order to be with my son during the day and was attempting to help him deal with the grief of missing his father, who had decided, against my wishes, that it would be best not to communicate with our son. I felt a great deal of stress and anxiety over this, and anger towards my husband as well.

At last, a ray of hope appeared. I found the training in metaphysics I had been seeking and was learning about guardian angels. It was comforting to know they were helping me navigate this difficult time in my life.

One More Thing

Something new was about to confront me, however, adding to my challenges. I had been a smoker for about 15 years and became aware of a thought in the back of my mind that it would be good if I quit. I managed to ignore this thought for a few weeks, but it persisted.

Finally it occurred to me that this might not be my thought. In meditation one day, I asked my angels if, indeed, they were suggesting I quit smoking. The answer was, “Yes.”

“Well,” I huffed, “I can’t do that. I have too much to contend with now, never mind quitting smoking.”

It was several weeks later that the subject arose again in meditation. This time I asked how it would benefit me to quit. The answer was that it would clear my vibration and strengthen my psychic awareness. That sounded good to me, but I had a condition.

I said, “You’ll have to help me. The process will have to be easy and painless because I can’t take any more pressure right now.” The answer was, “We will help you.”

I forgot all about quitting, and three months later I had smoked my last cigarette. I have never wanted another one, and that was 40 years ago.

The process of quitting unfolded effortlessly as I became aware of thoughts about my smoking. The reason for smoking eventually came to me. For me, it was insecurity. I found it difficult to sit down and relax. I thought I had to be busy every minute of every day, so smoking became something to do while I took a break. And it was a social ice-breaker.

As I worked out these issues, cigarettes began to taste worse and worse until one day I threw them away. I did not remember the conversation between my angels and me which started that journey until years later.

And that’s the thanks my angels got for helping me quit smoking. It’s a good thing they don’t require adulation. I’d be in a world of trouble, obtuse as I can be sometimes.

Your Angels Are Always There

Everyone has experienced the presence of a higher power at some time in their life. Sudden inspiration, an accident narrowly missed, a feeling of peace in the midst of chaos are typical experiences.

Whatever your name for this presence, it is always with you. Each of us brings a team of spiritual helpers with us when we are born. Their job is to help us live our purpose. They never tell us what to do; they wait until we ask for their assistance.

Prayer and meditation are two ways in which we communicate with our spiritual helpers. Today there are books about guardian angels. People discuss angels openly in the media. Back in the day when I was on the lecture circuit, I didn’t talk about guardian angels when I appeared in the media. Most people weren’t ready to talk about them.

No matter who you are or what you are going through, you have spiritual experts with you at all times who are waiting for you to ask for their help. If you want to connect more deeply with your guardian angels, take advantage of the resources you can find at your local book store or on the Internet. You’ll be glad you did.

I could go on and on, but this post is already a long one. I will share more about spiritual help in my next post. Meanwhile, you may want to start a deeper relationship with your guardian angels today.

Live your purpose every day.

Meditation – What is it Good For?

To a lot of people, meditation is a mystery. To a lot of people, meditation seems an impossibly intricate process that requires years of practice; something they could probably never master. Many people see no value in learning meditation; it is too complicated and there’s just no time. And what are the advantages?

Yes, meditation can require a great deal of discipline and time. Fortunately, there are different types of meditation for different purposes. Many people find fulfillment in meditating for an hour or more every day. They use different methods according to their preferences and purposes. They sit cross-legged and use aids such as bells, bowls, mantras, candles, incense, water, and music to help them focus.

There are other people who meditate for maybe 5-10 minutes every day. They may sit in a chair, lie on a couch or bed, or sit cross-legged on a pillow or the floor. They may use some of the aids mentioned above to help them focus, or not. Some may meditate for 2 or 3 minutes while on the move; walking in the park, walking to work, jogging, or walking the dog.

In my view, there is as much value in a relatively short meditation as there is in a longer meditative experience. In my opinion, meditative style is determined by one’s personality and lifestyle. Meditation is a practical tool that everyone can use to strengthen them and brighten their day.

Meditation is a solitary experience. The primary purpose of meditation is to relax the body and experience the inner peace, calm, lightness, and joy at the center of our being. It allows us to center ourselves in our hearts where we can connect to our source. We all hold a place inside that is deeply peaceful, where nothing can disturb us. When we experience that place inside, we are refreshed and energized.

What are the benefits of meditation? Meditation can strengthen us to face challenges, we can learn from our experiences by meditating on them, and we can get answers from our inner guidance in meditation. Meditation is like a railroad track to our inner wisdom. It takes us to the place inside where our answers are.

If you are new to meditation, I invite you to try setting aside a few minutes before you start your day. Here is a simple, effective meditation that anyone can do.

To start out, I suggest sitting in a comfortable chair with your back straight and both feet flat on the floor. As you progress, you can experiment with positions to determine which one is right for you. Lying down makes many people fall asleep.

Next, clear your bioelectric energy field. One way is to close your eyes and imagine a white light filling your body and expanding to form a bubble of white light all around you. You can also rub your hands together and pass them over your head and the back of your neck. Notice the feeling of alert relaxation that comes over you as you clear.

The next step is up to you. If you are looking for an answer, ask the question, sit quietly, and notice any impressions you receive. If your mind wanders, gently focus back on the white light. If you don’t get an answer, you could ask for a sign to appear some time during the day that would enlighten you. Another thing you could do is set an intention for the day, such as, “My intention is that today be light, easy, and joyful.” Or, you could simply absorb the feeling of relaxed alertness that you experience.

Finally, clear your energy field again. Always begin and end your sessions with clearing.

You may want to try different meditative processes, as well. There are many good books, CDs, and videos that can teach you other styles of meditation. Meditation can be an intricate experience filled with ceremony or it can be a simple few minutes taken to refresh and energize you. I encourage you to try it. You may be surprised at what it does for you.

Unexpected Events or The Vicissitudes of Life

I missed a blog post last Friday. I lied on Facebook today – thought I got my Friday post in before my computer crashed, but I didn’t. My computer got infected by a virus – first time I’ve had that experience, so I thought I’d tell you the story of my angst and ultimate recovery.

When I received the messages of infection late Thursday night, I immediately went into panic mode. (Old habits die hard). There was a complication involving my telephone, which also was not working. I imagined the worst scenarios possible: lost a day of blogging – a disaster, my Internet days were over, all the work I’d done up to then was for nothing, how was I going to reach my Internet provider?, I was a failure. (We psychotherapists are human beings, after all.)

I can be quite the drama queen when I put my mind to it. My experience tells me it’s because I am a Gemini and my Life Purpose number is 3, both influences contributing to a tendency for rapid emotional slides up or down, depending on what’s happening in my life. Because I am aware of this, I have developed strategies to deal with it. These are implemented when I ultimately tire of the drama and decide I want to feel good again. High anxiety puts a heavy toll on the self.

I regained my sanity with a powerful healing process that enabled me to change my emotional state in a few seconds that night. Here’s how I learned it.

While listening to a webinar featuring Mary A. Hall on Jennifer McLean’s “Healing with the Masters” series a few weeks ago (www.bigbookofyoublog.com/healing-with-the-masters/living-abundantly-with-mary-a-hall/), I had a stunning experience. Mary’s amazing work is centered on the heart. She shared a meditation that opened up new levels of peace within me, and she said something so profound I will always remember it. As she led the meditation, guiding us to the physical spot where the heart center is located, she said something that gave me a startling new insight. She said there is no pain, no hurt, and no anxiety in the heart; there never was and there never will be. What is present in the heart center is love, all is well, it’s OK. I had never perceived the heart center in that way before. At that moment, I could feel the peace physically flowing through my body, relaxing all my muscles and infusing me with warmth. I felt a sense of complete acceptance of what is. And what a comfort to know that there is a calm, loving center within that I can go to whatever life offers me.

When I finally tuned in to my wonderful heart center last Thursday night, it told me everything was OK, no worries, all was well. At that moment I received a solution for the telephone problem and an elegant plan for the next three days which brought me fulfilling opportunities while my computer was being restored to health. My inner knowing told me everything would work out perfectly, and it did.

I focus on my heart center every day in meditation. I invite you to try it. I am grateful that I followed my intuition and tuned in to Mary’s session on the web that day. You can visit her website at http://www.healthandhealingconnections.com/About.htm.
